Welcome House Recovery Center to build new $13M facility

Welcome House Recovery Center, one of Kansas City’s cornerstone residential recovery organizations serving men challenged by drug and alcohol addiction, is building a new $13 million facility to replace its deteriorating, century-old building.

The new, larger recovery facility aims to meet the growing demands for residential recovery services in the region.

“This groundbreaking is an exciting, new beginning for the future of recovery in Kansas City,” said Welcome House president and CEO, Jamie Boyle.

The three-story, 27,000-SF building will be constructed adjacent to its current facility at 1414 E. 27th Street in Kansas City, Mo.

“Welcome House helps any adult man with a sincere desire to recover from substance use disorder and to find the support he needs to live a healthy and productive life in sobriety. This campus allows us to expand our circle of care, to increase efficiencies and to continue our legacy in recovery from which more than 18,000 men and their families have benefited over the last 50+ years,” Boyle said.

The focus of the recovery center, designed by Kansas City-based h|d Architecture, is to create positive living experiences for the residents. The design features 100+ resident beds, classrooms, offices, a computer/career lab, a chapel, wellness and recreation areas, and family/community engagement spaces.

“We are doing more than fulfilling the fundamental needs of humans – we are creating a space that truly benefits the greater good,” said Greg Highbarger, principal/owner at h|d Architecture.

Welcome House, one of the metro’s only residential recovery programs focusing solely on the needs of adult males, has successfully raised more than $10 million of the $13 million+ needed to construct the facility. Fundraising from a variety of sources continues, with hopes of including an optional and much-needed parking structure in the project plans.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Welcome House in shaping this dream into something tangible, lasting and real,” said Eric Turner, president of Forge Construction, the general contractor on the project.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held this Thursday, June 23 at 8:30am.
