Fogel-Anderson rings up supermarket deals

Over the past few years, general contractor Fogel-Anderson Construction has built and renovated dozens of grocery stores in the KC metro area, including three Price Choppers in 2021 alone.

Just last week, the Kansas City-based contractor - along with project partners David Ball of Balls Foods, Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) and Tutera - celebrated the grand re-opening of the newly remodeled Ball’s Price Chopper store, located at the intersection of 84th and Wornall in Kansas City, Mo.

“We removed the drop ceiling to expose the original barrel roof and accentuated it with dramatic LED lighting,” said Roger Summers, partner/vice president of business development with Fogel-Anderson.

The newly-remodeled, 37,000-SF store also features new shelving and refrigeration cases, new HVAC systems, energy-efficient lighting and refrigeration equipment, expanded bakery, deli and produce departments, self-checkouts, fresh meat and seafood offerings, a larger liquor section (Harry’s Liquor Store), an expanded pharmacy, as well as a larger collection of grocery and non-food items throughout the store.

Other area Price Choppers included in Fogel-Anderson’s grocery store project list include:

For each store, John Knechtenhofer, with Balls Food Stores, was involved as the director of store development and Mark Knutson, store engineer with AWG, was involved in each store layout and design served by AWG.

“We are fortunate to have great relationships with store operators like Balls Foods, the Cosentino family, as well as AWG.  We’re also fortunate to have a project manager like Sheldon Simmermon, who has been directly involved in all of our grocery store projects over the last 20 years,” said Summers.

Other recent area Fogel-Anderson grocer projects include the Price Chopper renovation at the Ranchmart Shopping Center in Leawood, Kan., and the Cosentino’s Market at Bluhawk, both operated by John Cosentino.

Ball’s Food Stores was started in 1923 by Mollie and Sydney Ball. The company is in its third generation of family leadership with David Ball as its current president.

The company operates 26 stores in the Kansas City metro area under the Price Chopper, Hen House Markets, Sunfresh and Payless Discount Foods banners. The new Waldo Price Chopper will be open from 7am to 10pm daily. For weekly ads and more information, please visit mypricechopper.com or download the Price Chopper app.
