ABC announces 'Excellence in Construction' awards

Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Heart of America Chapter announced the winners of its 2022 “Excellence in Construction” Awards program at the annual banquet held last week (Nov. 3) at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

Winners were selected by a panel of judges who reviewed the project entries explaining safety practices, innovative solutions and unique challenges, among other judging criteria. Seven category winners in subcontracting and thirteen category winners in general contracting were selected.

In the subcontracting categories, the winner in the Electrical Commercial category was Electrical Associates for the Fareway Meat Market project. The winner in the Electrical Industrial category was Electrical Associates for the Advanced Ambulatory Surgical Center. The winner in the Mechanical Commercial/Institutional – Over $5 Million category was Temp-Con LLC with the Project Marnie project. Thermaltech, Inc. won in the Mechanical Commercial/Institutional – Under $5 Million category with its work on the Beyond Meat Dry Blend project. There were three subcontractor finalists for Subcontractor Project of the Year. QuesTec Mechanical, won the Commercial category for their work on the Wentzville Middle School project; Lee Mechanical Contractors, was the winner in the Industrial category for its project on the Geofortis Utah Pozzolan Plant; and Hth companies, Inc. won in the Mechanical Industrial category for the Verbio VNV Insulation project.

In the general contracting categories, Nabholz won the Healthcare – Over $10 Million category for its work on the Belton Regional Medical Center ICU Addition project. The winner in the Healthcare – Under $5 Million category was also Nabholz for its work on the University of Missouri Molecular Imaging and Theranostics Center (MITC) project. The winner of the Industrial category was Fogel-Anderson Construction Co. for the US Engineering Metalworks project. Straub Construction won in the Institutional – Over $10 Million category with their project on the Park University Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center. The winner in the Institutional – Under $10 Million category was also Straub Construction for their Journey Church International project. Crossland Heavy Contractors won the Public Works/Environmental – Over $5 Million category with its project on the Turkey Creek Pump Station Improvements. The winner in the Public Works/Environmental – Under $5 Million was also Crossland Heavy Contractors, with the South Wellfield Public Water Supply Well No. 13 project.

The winner in the Renovation category was Straub Construction with Let It Fly Media project. Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. won the Specialty – Over $10 Million category for the URBN Outfitters Kansas City Fulfillment Center project. The winner of the Specialty - Under $10 Million was MegaKC for the Koi & Alligator Pond Exhibit project.

There were three general contractor finalists for General Contractor Project of the Year. Fogel-Anderson Construction Co., won in the Commerical category for Price Chopper 17 at Bannister project; Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc., the winner of the Infrastructure: Heavy category for the I-49 McDonald County project; and MW Builders, who won in the Residential category for the Woodstone at Metro North project.

The award of Top General Contractor Project went to Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. for the I-49 McDonald County project. The Top Subcontractor Project was awarded to Lee Mechanical Contractors for the Geofortis Utah Pozzolan Plant project.

The Arthur C. Waugh Keystone Award went to Mark Bessmer of Henry Miller Mechanical.

In the safety categories, the Subcontractor Safety Award went to Fatboy Electric, Inc.; the General Contractor Safety Award went to Robinson Construction; and the winner of the Ted Anderson Superior Safety Award was hth companies, inc.
