Port KC and Kansas City Current forge $800M partnership for Berkley Riverfront redevelopment

In a groundbreaking announcement, Port KC, the proprietor of Berkley Riverfront development, has unveiled a strategic development agreement with Kansas City Current to transform approximately 10 acres of land adjacent to Berkley Riverfront Park into a high-density, diverse, and pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.

The joint venture aims to introduce an array of office, retail, and housing options, seamlessly complementing existing developments like KC Current Stadium, the Origin Hotel, Bar K, and the Core and Union apartment complexes.

The planned development, unfolding in phases over a decade, will encompass an impressive 2 million SF, incorporating office and retail spaces along with approximately 1,000 multifamily residential units -- 10 percent of those units will cater to individuals with an income at 50 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Port KC's vision for Berkley Riverfront has been a decade in the making, with the creation of a meticulously crafted master plan. The realization of this long-awaited dream is now taking shape, turning a once-forgotten and scarred piece of land into an inviting blend of commerce, work, and recreation, leaving an indelible mark on Kansas City's landscape.

"Witnessing this transformation from desolate terrain to a vibrant and welcoming destination for all has been our enduring aspiration. We have dedicated years to meticulously designing and constructing this gem at the heart of Kansas City, and we are deeply grateful to our partners who share our vision for Berkley Riverfront's bright future," said Jon Stephens, CEO of Port KC in a release.

Construction of a beer garden and outdoor rec area will begin in the upcoming fall season, coinciding with the planned launch of KC Streetcar operations by 2025, which will include a strategic stop near the Origin Hotel.

Additionally, consideration is underway for Parcel 9, which envisions more parking facilities conveniently situated across from KC Current Stadium -- on track to open in time for the team’s 2024 season.

As of now, no project partners have been publicly disclosed.
