Kansas City's largest office building to house Banksia's flagship restaurant

Copaken Brooks has announced Banksia has a new home at 1111 Main in the Skyline Collection at the base of KC’s largest office building. The Australian-inspired café and bistro is relocating from its existing Downtown location at 105 W 9th St. to open a new 5,300-SF full-service restaurant at 1111 Main in the spring of 2024.

Copaken Brooks is proud to perform the owner’s representative services for Banksia’s build-out.

Banksia, with two locations in Downtown and South Plaza (4800 Main St), brings a unique blend of Australian flavors to Kansas City, aiming to fill a culinary gap in the Midwest.

Founded by Sydney (Australia) transplants, the Bistro takes pride in deconstructing classic dishes creating elevated cuisine for everyday enjoyment. Offering patio seating, a full bar and exceptional coffee, Banksia has long been the go-to for breakfast, lunch, gourmet coffee and baked goods and will now be adding a 20-seat bar and dinner service including private event spaces. Banksia also provides corporate and event catering, presenting a fusion of global flavors.

The location is situated on the prominent corner of Main Street & 12th Street, just steps away from a KC Streetcar stop and directly adjacent to the Power and Light District. Additionally, it is connected to the Downtown Sky Walk system, providing enclosed access to over 25,000 people in the Central Business District.

“After 6 successful years at our current downtown location, we were looking to expand into a space that can better meet our customer demand and where we could build a beautiful space to accommodate a large bar and dinner service, This space ticks all the boxes for our vision” said Robert Joseph, founder of Banksia. “The prominent location on the streetcar line ensures easy access for our customers, and the size is perfect. We can finally add dinner to our lineup. Being at the base of an 840,000-square-foot office building gives us a chance to cater to a large customer base all day long. Plus, our plans for a beautiful, plant filled outdoor patio will be an Instagram hit.”

Banksia was represented by Tiffany Ruzicka from AREA Real Estate Advisors while Erin Johnston at Copaken Brooks represented 1111 Main in the deal.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Banksia to 1111 Main,” Johnston said. “Having recently undergone a major transformation to include significant aesthetic improvements, a new concierge desk, and addition of security turnstiles, 1111 Main continues to enhance the premiere Class A environment. It was important to us that our most prominent restaurant space procured an operator who could match that aesthetic and bring exciting culinary offerings to the building and surrounding area. Banksia’s vision will transform the space to an iconic destination inside and out, and their thoughtfully curated menu – from their specialty coffees and baked goods to their chef-driven cuisine and full bar – will bring an array of new food and beverage options from morning to night.”
