Lee's Summit will soon have a new movie theater.

B&B Theatres has entered into an agreement with Box Real Estate Development to build a new 7-screen theater in Lee's Summit within the New Longview development.

B&B President Bob Bagby says the state-of-the-art theater will be a great addition to the mixed-use "New Urbanism" entertainment district, and hopes to open the theater doors in the fall of 2017.

The theatre will feature cutting edge technology, including Christie digital projection and 3D XBRITE High Frame Rate and REAL-D technology. All auditoriums will have stadium seating, leather recliner chairs, Dolby 7.1 digital surround sound and wall-to-wall curved screens.

B&B says it will also upgrade the Lee's Summit 16 on NE Douglas Road in 2017, ushering in a "new era of movie-going for Lee's Summit and the surrounding area."

Founded in 1924, family-owned B&B Theatres is the 9th largest theatre chain in North America and operates 407 screens at 50 locations across the country. The company is currently building its flagship theatre in Liberty, Mo.

New Longview is a mixed-use commercial and residential development located on the site of the historic Longview Farm, built in 1914. M-III Longview, a subsidiary of Mariner Real Estate Management, took over as master developer in 2013 and is working with Yarco Development and Box Real Estate Development for the remaining commercial within the district.
